Over the years, Pigeon Forge has become popular for its incredible variety of things to do for people of all ages and it will soon feature a brand new attraction that is sure to appeal to just about everyone! A brand new indoor “drive-in” theater has been confirmed that will be located along the stretch of road behind The Island. We put “drive-in” in quotes because you do not actually “drive” in to watch a movie as you would have in the past. This is a completely new, fun concept and all of the details are revealed below!
What is an indoor “drive in” movie theater?
If you have been fortunate enough to experience a classic drive-in movie in your lifetime, then you likely have fond memories of fun summer nights with family, friends, or that special someone. Unfortunately for the classic drive-in experience, it was always dependent on weather, technology, car batteries, the smell of exhaust, etc and so it slowly got replaced my the modern indoor movie theater.
However, what if you could blend the best of both worlds and create an indoor “drive in” that recreates the magic of enjoying a movie under a perfect summer night sky & weather 365 days a year? That is the vision behind “August Moon”, which is the name of the new indoor drive-in theater coming soon to Pigeon Forge.
Here is how the developers describe August Moon:
“The August Moon Drive-In is conceived as a mini indoor theme park that transports people in space and time to a quintessentially American experience – where that perfect summer night at sunset, where crickets chirp in the distance and the audience breathes in the scent of fresh meadow air, can be repeated with absolute consistency within what is effectively a giant movie set. In addition to being a re-invention of the movie-going experience, the August Moon experience allows audiences time to explore, play, and dine, in addition to watching the movie.”
August Moon will feature around 40 classic cars allowing you to enjoy the classic “drive-in” experience. They also plan to offer other areas to sit such as swings, stadium seating, tables, or simply a picnic blanket spread underneath the “stars”.
Below are some details they shared about their Nashville location and we are not certain if all of these will also be at the Pigeon Forge location, but it gives an idea of how unique this “movie-going” experience will be and how it offers so much more than a modern movie theater.
- INNOVATIVE LIVE ENTERTAINMENT AND GROUND BREAKING INTERACTIVE ELEMENTS – LIKE MOVIE PREVIEWS THAT FEATURE LIVE ACTORS ON SCREEN THAT MAGICALLY INTERACT WITH THE AUDIENCE AND CALL PEOPLE OUT BY NAME
- THE LARGEST NON-IMAX MOVIE SCREEN IN NORTH AMERICA
- A FULL BAR AT SEVERAL LOCATIONS
- ARTISANAL AMERICAN COMFORT FOOD
- MULTIPLE DINING AREAS
- PRIVATE “TREE HOUSE” EVENT AND PARTY SPACES
- A SEPARATE LOUNGE THAT FEATURES LIVE MUSIC PROGRAMMING BEFORE AND AFTER THE MOVIE
- FILM PROGRAMMING THAT FEATURES BOTH FIRST RUN MOVIES AS WELL AS RARELY SCREENED FAVORITES
- FROM ALL GENRES THAT ARE NO LONGER WIDELY SCREENED
August Moon is said to open in late 2019 or 2020. As detail unfold, we will keep this article updated.
